A reference to René Magritte’s “Ceci n’est pas une pipe.” (This is not a pipe).
Life seems to be on the run, and we find we never have enough time, wishing that the day would have just a few more hours to accomplish our daily goals. This project shows a person running endlessly (for a couple of minutes). The words “I’m running” then light up in front of the runner.
The video follows the runner through a cycle of thought, where the light that spells "I'm running" is at first acceptable. Then when the runner thinks about it more in depth, he no longer sees that as the truth and realizes he is only fooling himself. And so, he decides to step down (because in reality he knows he is not running).
I used a cheap treadmill and a hand-crank flashlight. The treadmill's gear turned the crank for the flashlight and that was connected to the light in front of the runner.
